Dec-Jan 2012: Segerstrom Center For The Arts
December-Jan 2012
The Segerstrom Center For The Arts
Adjacent to the Tony® Award-winning South Coast Repertory and the future home of the Orange County Museum of Art is SCFTA’s center campus, nestled in the expansive Arts Plaza. ViViD Magazine had the pleasure of meeting with two of SCFTA’s most pivotal board members to learn about the roles these respected Chinese-American women play at the renowned art center.
Cool winter weather had finally reached Southern California, but we were greeted by abnormally warm temperatures and even warmer hearts the day we arrived at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts (SCFTA) in Orange County. The state-of-art performing arts center is as beautiful and intricate as the presentations it hosts, overwhelming in its grandeur but intimate in feel. As Orange County’s largest non-profit arts organization, the SCFTA has grown exponentially since its establishment 25 years ago, now encompassing five major venues. On top of the original 3,000-seated Segerstrom Hall and the intimate 250-seated Founders Hall, more recent members of the Center include the 2,000-seat Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, the 500-seat Samueli Theater, and the Lawrence and Kristina Dodge Education Center. Year-round, the Center presents a dynamic array of programs including classical music concerts, international ballet and dance, Broadway shows, jazz and cabaret performances, as well as free performances and events open to the public.
